Snow Expected To Stick Overnight In Southeast Michigan (Seriously)
DETROIT (WWJ) - After a warm spring weekend, could you stand more snow?
Metro Detroiters could wake up to find an inch or two of snow on the ground Tuesday morning.
There are SCHOOL CLOSINGS.
A High Wind Warning remains in effect in Southeast Michigan until noon on Monday, with gusts up to 50 or 60 miles per hour. AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean Devore says the winds should start to curtail a bit as we head into the afternoon, but gusts up to 30 mph. will be possible, along with rain throughout the day.
Those cold winds will bring much colder temperatures.
"After we touched 70 degrees this morning — we were around 70 for a while — we started to slowly fall back; we're in the 60s now," Devore said, late Monday morning. "We'll end up tin the 50s during the afternoon. Then we'll really fall down into the 20s tonight."
That's when, he says, any leftover rain showers will turn to a wintry mix, and then into snow showers.
"Some places could pick up to an inch or so of accumulation on grassy surfaces," said Devore. "There could be some slick spots, but at least the ground is warmed up enough that it's going to be hard to get those slick spots, especially on anything that's treated tonight.
But that's not the end of it. Devore says the air will remain chilly enough Tuesday morning that metro Detroit could see a snow shower or some flurries as temperatures struggle to inch up toward 40 degrees.
Detroit is "this close" to breaking its all-time snow record of 93.6 inches, which was set back during the winter of 1880-1881. As of Monday morning, Detroit only needed two more inches. WWJ will keep you updated.
