Snow Emergency Lifted In Detroit
DETROIT (AP) - A snow emergency declared earlier this week for Detroit by Mayor Dave Bing has ended. Bing's office says in an e-mail that the snow emergency was lifted Friday morning.
The mayor put it in effect Tuesday after the storm entered Michigan from the southwest.
Under a snow emergency, police were allowed to ticket and tow vehicles parked on snow emergency routes.
Detroit got about 8.7 inches of snow Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning. Some parts of the state received as much as 20 inches.
The city says plowing of residential streets was completed Thursday afternoon, with crews continuing to clear secondary streets in the evening.
Detroit has about 1,900 miles of residential streets.
