Snow Coming: Michigan In Path Of Winter Storm
HOUGHTON (WWJ/AP) - A Midwest storm is expected to bring snow to Michigan, with more than a foot forecast for parts of the Upper Peninsula.
The National Weather Service says the storm is expected to move across the area starting Monday night, with 3 to 6 inches possible up north.
The western side of the Lower Peninsula, rain changing to snow is expected to bring 1 to 2 inches of snow.
In Southeast Michigan -- including in the Detroit area -- some snow also is possible.
AccuWeather meteorologist Dean Devore said snow would arrive in metro Detroit early in the day, mixing with some sleet before eventually changing over to rain.
Slick spots are likely on area freeways until temperatures creep up to around 39 degrees later in the day.
Snow is to continue Tuesday and Wednesday, with an additional 6 to 20 inches expected near Houghton, Baraga and the Porcupine Mountains. Heavy lake-effect snow is expected along Lake Superior. Occasional white-out conditions are forecast Tuesday and Wednesday in that area.
