Smoke Fills Sky As Fire Burns On Harsens Island
HARSENS ISLAND (WWJ) - A large grass fire burning on Harsens Island in St Clair County was under control, early Thursday evening.
Some witnesses on the island said they'd heard it was controlled burn, but fire dispatchers said that was not the case.
WWJ Newsradio 950 spoke with one woman who works across the street from where the fire was still ablaze around 5:30 p.m.
"There's a fire hydrant right out in front of the house, and there's one hooked up to it. They're spraying ... but I see another flame starting out right in front of the store," she said.
Black smoke filled the sky as the fire burned in a large, marshy area.
No buildings were damaged and no injuries have been reported.
