Small Plane Crashes Near Ann Arbor, Pilot Hospitalized
PITTSFIELD TWP. (WWJ/AP) - A man was taken to the hospital after his single-engine, two-seat plane crashed near the Ann Arbor Municipal Airport.
Matt Harshberger, director of Public Safety for Pittsfield Township, said the man was alone in the small plane that took off late Thursday morning. He said the plane circled around and crashed in a field about 150 feet from the small airport's runway.
"The pilot was pinned into the cockpit of the plane. Fire and police responded from Pittsfield Township and we were able to secure the scene. The Fire Department used their extrication tools to cut him out of the plane and he was taken to the hospital," said Harshberger.
The man was reportedly "in shock" but alive after the crash. He was taken by ambulance to University of Michigan Hospital, where he is in stable condition.
