Small Business Saturday: Metro Detroiters Encouraged To Shop Local Today
SATURDAY (WWJ) - Now that the crazy Black Friday rush is over, it's time to shop the local, smaller stores.
November 28 is Small Business Saturday with local stores hoping to reap the rewards of holiday shoppers. Dearborn, Westland, Northville, Farmington and Rochester Hills are among the cities touting their stores, with many businesses offering in-store deals and prizes for shopping locally.
Small Business Saturday was created to encourage shoppers to go to brick and mortar businesses that are small and local. Many owners say money spent at their stores stays in the community.
"Research shows that for every $100 spent locally, 66 percent of that stays in the local economy," said Westland Mayor William Wild. "And the local taxes help pay for our police and fire and other city services."
