Six Students Arrested After Pair Of School Fights
FERNDALE (WWJ) - A dispute on Twitter led to two fights at a Ferndale high school.
That's according to police, who say a total of six students were arrested, and a school official suffered a broken leg at Taft Digital Learning Center on Thursday.
Ferndale Police Chief, Timothy Collins told WWJ Newsradio 950 said the initial altercation initially involved two girls — one who posted a picture of the other on Twitter.
Following a lunchroom brawl, two juveniles were arrested and turned over to their parents, with charges pending. Three additional students — Deante Sullivan, 17, Joyce Robinson, 19, and Yolanda Dinkins, 17, all of Detroit — are being charged as adults, with resisting and assaulting an officer.
Dinkins also is charged with two counts of assault and battery, according to police.
Later, at the end of the school day, Collins said, two other students started fighting near the school entrance.
"The administrator at the school tried to break the fight up, and while he was trying to restrain one of the young ladies, the other young lady came and attacked the administrator," said Collins, "and punched him a couple of times and stomped on his leg when he was down."
Jaylen Michael Duren, 18, of Detroit, was charged with resisting and obstructing police and assault and battery, following the incident.
Collins said they will have a greater police presence at Taft school on Monday.
