Sign Of The Times: Couple Turns To Facebook Seeking Child To Adopt
FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) -- An Oakland County couple is helping forge new territory in the adoption world. They have turned to social media in an effort to help find a baby for them to adopt.
Jason and Heidi are no strangers to using the internet to fulfill their dreams -- they met online. Now married for three years, the couple has turned to Facebook to help network and find a child.
"It's just growing, we're at over 200 likes and we just opened the Facebook page at the end of December," Heidi said.
Adoption Associates director Paula Springer said that they have started to encourage couples to put their stories online to help their chances of finding a baby.
"We will help them with Facebook pages and social media, developing their own resources, a webpage -- whatever they want," Springer said. "That's the way the world is in general today -- that the explosion of social media, we're encouraging our families to take advantage of that."
Jason said the process helps relieve the stress of waiting.
"It feels like you're doing your part to get your message out there, that it's something you can work for," Jason said.
The Facebook page is filled with pictures of couple and lists their hopes and views. Heidi said that the more the page is viewed and shared, the better the chance is of starting their family.
"We hope that a connection is found, that they can see us as actual people in our daily lives," Heidi said. "That's the benefit of social media."
She said they're just one click away from starting the family they've always dreamed of.
"We are in love with a child, more and more every day that we have not met yet," Heidi said. "We just want the future birth-mother to know that we will provide a loving home and that every day we will make that child first in our lives."
