Shrine High School Student Wins Prom 'Newspaper Dress' Contest
ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - The Detroit Free Press has announced its prom dress contest winner.
Hundreds of area high school students submitted dresses and accessories made of newspaper to the contest.
Seventeen-year-old Molly Bonnell of Shrine High School won. She described her elaborate dress in a live interview earlier Friday on WWJ Newsradio 950.
"The top of the dress is woven out of newspaper and it's a deep 'V' silhouette with spaghetti straps made out of comics and there is a red skinny belt, and the skirt is also made out of comics and it's really bright and colorful and it's circles cut out and fish-scales all the way to the bottom," said Molly.
Bonnell of Royal Oak now gets $500 cash and she says she plans to buy some more dress patterns and do some shopping with the money.
Bonnell probably won't be wearing the dress to her own prom, but she says the paper dress actually is wearable.
