Shouting Match Precedes Biden Speech In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - A small group Mitt Romney supporters got into a bit of a shouting match with President Obama backers at Detroit's Campus Martius about an hour before Vice-President Joe Biden spoke at a Labor Day rally.
About a dozen or so Romney fans staged their own rally outside the Hard Rock Café, offering their pre-emptive rebuttal to Biden's speech a few blocks away.
Cindy Uglow of Novi led the charge, calling Biden a loose cannon.
"And I hate to say anything bad about him, because I'm sure he's a good person, but, I mean, Obama and Biden need to step out and let America grow," she told WWJ Newsradio 950's Ron Dewey.
From there, the group was greeted by Obama supporters and detractors who traded shouts and jeers -- what more cynical voters may see as a preview of what's to come, with nine weeks left until Election Day.
Bobby Shostak of the Michigan GOP wasn't about to let Biden off easy in what will be a battleground state for the White House.
"We're sending a clear message that the policies in Washington have not worked. The leadership has failed and our people are here to support Mitt Romney and help get America back on track," Shostak said.
Shostak said despite the unions' backing of Obama, he has not brought forth the solutions to the country's high unemployment.
"The President wanted to be a guy that would bring everybody together and the reality is he hasn't," Shostak said. "And it's been very divisive, it's been very negative, and his days are numbered."
