Shoppers Feeling The Rush To Finish Christmas Gift Buying
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - With only a week left until Christmas, shoppers were out in Detroit this weekend trying to complete their holiday gift list.
Many people were shopping for that "it" toy. At Toys-R-Us in Southfield it was the Leap Pad that Wanda Bradley of Detroit found.
"Very hard to find it - it's the hottest toy ... I guess it's the new learning tool ... for kids this year ... it kind of reminds you of one of those tablets - iPad - but it's a smaller version," said Bradley.
The Southfield Toys R Us has now sold out of the Leap Frog. Bradley says she'll be shopping for toys until Christmas Eve -- saying she enjoys the holiday atmosphere.
Shawn Peters of Beverly Hills had success with a hard-to-find item: "I actually just got this hard-to-find item, this Leap Pad - Leapster thing. I think they are just selling out of ... it was very difficult to find - pretty happy to get one right now."
Toys-R-Us will be open 24 hours beginning Tuesday at 6 a.m. to accommodate all the shoppers the last days through Christmas Eve.
Bonita Lewis of Highland Park bought some toys for a nephew, but like many metro Detroiters said she's going through a hard time.
"I really didn't have the Christmas spirit this year - now, since I came out, I think this is the first time I've really felt the spirit. I was just going through the motions - lost my son a couple months ago - so I'm really not in the spirit," said Lewis.
Lewis says her 27-year old son died of cancer and she's trying to go on for her 17-year-old daughter, her husband and other family members.
