Shooting At Eastland Mall Leaves 2 Hospitalized As Police Search For Suspects
HARPER WOODS (WWJ) - Police are looking for three to four suspects in an apparent drive-by shooting outside the Eastland Mall Wednesday.
Harper Woods police tell WWJ that a man and woman were wounded as they left the mall around 3:30 p.m through the exit behind the vacant Sears store.
"Officers arrived and we observed that we had a female adult victim, that was shot once, also a male adult victim, who also recieved one gunshot wound," said Harper Woods Police Chief Jim Burke.
Burke described the evidence at the scene.
"We collected 25-30 casings from a large caliber handgun we also believe some type of assault rifle may have been involved," said Burke.
He says the woman who was shot may have been an employee at the mall and was talking with the man when the suspects drove up and opened fire, striking them both.
Burke says they have solid leads on the suspects and their vehicle from surveillance video. The female victim is in serious condition - the male victim is expected to recover.
Shopper Dana Hartman says she was sorry to hear about the shooting...
"Devastating ... I have two toddlers and we come here all the time, they love the little playscape, and we patronize it all the time ... we are only five minutes away," said Hartman.
