Shinola Launches Buy American Drive, 'Makers Monday'
DETROIT (WWJ) -- The Detroit manufacturer Shinola has launched an online campaign to encourage holiday shoppers to buy American.
Called Makers Monday, the effort aims to encourage buying American-made merchandise on Monday, Dec. 2.
Shinola officials say American manufacturing is on the rebound, with a new generation embracing blue-collar work and factories being celebrated.
And, they say, if every American adult spent just $10 on Dec. 2, that adds up to $2.4 billion injected into the American economy.
Makers Monday asks consumers to put their money where it's made and pledge to buy an American-made product on Dec. 2 at www.MakersMonday.com -- and then share that pledge on their social media networks.
The site will also host a database of American makers and producers as well as provide an opportunity for additional businesses to register. Consumer suggestions are encouraged, making MakersMonday.com an evolving, crowd-sourced portal for all things well-designed and well-made in the United States.
Shinola says Makers Monday will be an annual campaign, celebrated the Monday after Thanksgiving.
Shinola will also be featuring Makers and sharing related content every Monday throughout the year on Makers Monday-dedicated social channels:
On social media, Makers Media is at https://facebook.com/makersmonday,
https://twitter.com/makersmonday, http://instagram.com/makersmonday,
http://www.youtube.com/user/makersmonday and http://vimeo.com/makersmonday.
Shinola is based in Detroit and says it's dedicated to American-made products of the highest quality. Currently, that includes watches, bicycles, leather goods and journals.
