Sex Crime Prisoner Charged In 2007 Gun Slaying
GRAND RAPIDS (AP) - West Michigan authorities say they've solved a 2007 killing with the filing of charges against an imprisoned sex offender.
The Kent Metro Cold Case Team announced Thursday that 22-year-old Alvon Davis faces second-degree murder, firearms and habitual offender charges in the shooting of 19-year-old Russell Griffin.
Mlive.com says Griffin was shot as he walked up to his house on Grand Rapids' southeast side.
Police say a witness told them that Griffin was returning from buying fast food when the shooter killed him.
Davis has been imprisoned at the Ionia Maximum Corrections Facility for second-degree criminal sexual conduct.
He waived his preliminary examination Tuesday in Grand Rapids District Court and is being held in the Kent County jail until his next court date.
