Storms Blow Across The State
DETROIT (WWJ) - Another storm system threatened Metro Detroit, Friday, amidst a week-long heat wave gripping the state. A severe thunderstorm watch had been issued until 8 p.m., but was canceled early, just after 4 p.m..
AccuWeather Meteorologist Jim Kosek said these storms are our chance for a bit of cool-down.
"It's gonna feel good when the rain's coming down as it will feel like the upper 70s low 80s outside," said Kosek. "But, with too much rain too fast and some damaging wind gusts, there are problems with isolating flooding downpours and some of the damage from the wind, so you gotta be careful with some of these storms earlier tonight," he said.

Record temperatures soared past 100 degrees, Thursday, causing the closure of over 100 public schools. Some residents have also been affected by rotating blackouts, while their city's power grid struggles to keep up with the higher electrical demand cause by the heat.
For those faced with no air conditioning or power, many public locations throughout the region have converted to cooling centers, offering some relief from the heat. (See the complete list here)
Friday afternoon, about 15,000 DTE Energy customers were without power, ahead of the storms.
