Severe Thunderstorms
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was posted Thursday afternoon for much of southeastern Michigan. The National Weather Service posted the watch in Macomb, Oakland, Wayne, Washtenaw, Livingston, Monroe and Lenawee counties.
Accuweather says hail to 2 inches in diameter, wind gusts to 70 miles-per-hour and dangerous lightning was possible in these areas.
The Watch was canceled at 4:30 p.m.
Heavy rain was reported throughout Michigan Thursday with more than an inch of rain reported in the Thumb region. In Lansing, nearly an inch-and-a-half of rain fell in a one hour period. More than two inches of rain was reported throughout the Upper Peninsula.
Remember, a severe thunderstorm watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. People in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and should listen for additional weather warnings. Severe thunderstorms occasionally do produce tornadoes.
