Severe Storms Move In For Friday, Saturday
DETROIT (CBS Detroit) Hang onto your hats and grab the umbrellas, metro Detroit, Friday's early sunshine promises to turn into wind, rain and overall bluster by mid-afternoon and stick around into the night.
CBS 62 Chief Meteorologist Jim Madaus said the storms could turn severe.
"We've got a storm system moving through Illinois right now and it's moving toward the Great Lakes area," Madaus said. "This is going to bring in the type of dynamics that could produce severe weather. As we speak there's already a severe thunderstorm just south of the Michigan border, in northwest Ohio and a good part of Indiana."
He added the storm was moving slow and would be in southeast Michigan by the afternoon. It will get worse as it continues, Madaus said, with rain turning heavy overnight.
Some of the storms could bring wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour and large hail, Madaus said.
And it won't end there: There's also a chance of thunderstorms Saturday.
"What's going to happen is the rain is going to stay with us and it will finally start moving out sometime later Saturday morning," the meteorologist said. "Heavy rains will be found early Saturday and there's still a chance of rain in the afternoon, but it's a smaller chance. It should be completely out of here by 8 p.m. tomorrow night.
What does that mean for football fans? There will potentially be some messy games.
"We can't rule out rain for some of the football games," Madaus said.
