Severe Storms Knock Out Power, Bring Flooding

HARRISON TWP. (WWJ) - About 10,000 DTE Energy customers are without service Wednesday morning following heavy storms that rolled through the area overnight.

Problem areas include Ann Arbor, along 14 Mile Road on the Warren-Sterling Heights border, the Greenfield-Plymouth area in Detroit, and the Grosse Pointes. Crews are working to restore service, but don't have a timetable for when power will be restored.

DTE is constantly updating a power outage map to show residents where to expect the worst. Click here to check the map.

Flooding was reported in several areas, especially in Macomb County's Harrison and Clinton townships, creating hazardous conditions on the roads. Sheriff's officials say it's so bad that some homeowners in the Clinton Township area reported water flowing into their front doors.

In Fraser, flooding was reported at Groesbeck Highway and Kelly Road, where even a couple of motorcycles dared to drive through the deep waters. At a nearby mobile home, residents said water was knee-deep.

Flooding also caused a problem for people trying to get to their jobs at a Dearborn steel plant Wednesday morning. Gate 10 of the Severstal Steel Plant, which has an entranceway that goes underneath Schaefer Road, was barricaded because of flooding. The plant said a van which attempted to enter through Gate 10 ended up getting stuck in over three-feet of water under the underpass.
