Severe Storms Blow Through Southeast Michigan
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - With temperatures well into the 90's, and the heat is making for some severe weather. As storm blew through the region, Monday afternoon, WWJ has been getting reports of storm damage throughout southeast Michigan.
As of 10 p.m., DTE Energy said there were about 35,000 homes and businesses without power in Oakland, Monroe and Livingston Counties.
The breakdown of areas without power:
WAYNE: 15K
OAKLAND: 7K
LIVINGSTON: 6K
MACOMB: 4K
MONROE: 2K
A trained spotter with the National Weather Service reported a few trees down near Holly, in northern Oakland County.
A flag pole was bent and trees were down in Swartz Creek, southwest of Flint. Trees were also reported down in Lapeer County. The heavy rain dumped an inch-and-a-half to two inches of rain in one hour on parts of Saginaw. Dime-sized hail was reported near Brighton.
"You get into western portions of Washtenaw County, and it's just a solid line of some heavy thunderstorms," said AccuWeather Meteroligist Dave Bowers.
"That just keeps building southward now into Lenawee and western Monroe. Though, it looks like just about everyone is going to be getting hit with at least one heavy thunderstorm cell within the next couple of hours," Bowers said.
Severe thunderstorm warnings issued in several southeast Michigan counties have expired.
