2 Gunmen Sought After 4 Shot, 1 Killed On Porch In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are searching for two gunmen who opened fire on multiple people who were sitting on the front porch of a home in a west side Detroit neighborhood.
According to Detroit police, four men were shot — one of them fatally — in the broad daylight incident, Friday afternoon, in the 2600-block of Hazelwood Street near Linwood and I-96.
Assistant Detroit Police Chief Steve Dolunt said the deceased victim is believed to be 65 years old.
The three surviving victims, in their 40s and 50s, were rushed to area hospitals following the shooting at around 3:15 p.m. Their conditions were unknown.
Talking to reporters at the scene, Dolunt called the incident "sickening."
"You've got four people shot; probably three of them could be innocent victims," Dolunt said. "There's kids out here, 'cause it's nice out, and these guys come out in their car — and they're not man enough to show their face — they come out firing their guns outside of a car because they're mad."
Dolunt said the motive for the shooting may have been retribution, but did not expand on that.
"I'm mad," he added. "There's no reason for this."
The suspects, a driver and two shooters, were reportedly traveling in a black Dodge Journey, which is a smaller SUV. Witnesses told police the license plate number may include "Z28."
One woman, who didn't want to give her name, said she saw it all.
"They rolled the window down, and they just shot...they shot guns until there was no more bullets!" she said.
"Three people got shot. They got the old man before he get to go up the stairs; they got the other man when he got up the stairs, but he never made it in the house. Then they shot the other man right here on the ground."
No names have been released.
