Several Injured From Lightning Strike In Portage
PORTAGE (WWJ) -- There was a lightning strike Tuesday night at a city park in Portage, where children and adults were playing soccer, seriously injuring one person and sending about a half dozen others to the hospital.
The lightning strike happened just before seven o'clock, as a wave of storms passed across Michigan's Lower Peninsula.
Portage Fire Battalion Chief Charles Wellman tells WWJ about the injuries:
"We ended up transporting one that was very serious, six others, seven in all, were transported by ambulances; I would say middle school to adults; there were at least two other people who went in for their own treatment from the hospital."
The injured were part of a youth soccer program at Westfield Park in Portage, near Kalamazoo.
