Serial Stabbing Suspect Awaits Transfer To Michigan
Authorities in Flint are debating when, how and who will pay for the return to Michigan of a man suspected of killing five men during a stabbing spree.
Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton says Elias Abuelazam remained jailed in Atlanta on a charge of assault with intent to murder in a July 17 attack in Flint.
The attack is believed to be one of 18 in Michigan, Virginia and Ohio since May 24.
Abuelazam was arrested last Wednesday while awaiting a flight to Israel.
Leyton says he's identifying flight, security and costs for Abuelazam's extradition. He says Genesee County's $18 million budget deficit may force him to seek state or local funds to help cover the cost.
Meantime, investigators have gone to Louisville, Kentucky to obtain two luggage bags from Abuelazam. His trip began in Detroit and made a stop in Kentucky before heading to Atlanta.
