Serial Bank Robber Gets 25 Years In Federal Prison
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WWJ/AP) - A serial bank robber has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for armed heists he committed in Michigan and Florida.
South Florida prosecutors say 28-year-old Jeffrey Ross robbed five banks in Broward County between October 2012 and February 2013. In each robbery, he displayed a gun and managed to steal a total of $9,646.
After the last Florida robbery, authorities say Ross went to Michigan where he robbed a Comerica Bank branch on Maple Road in Birmingham of $4,350 in July 2013. In this robbery, he ordered bank employees into a vault at gunpoint, but was caught hiding in the bushes behind the First Presbyterian Church nearby.
After his arrest in Michigan, Ross was extradited to Florida where he was charged.
He pleaded guilty to the charges in both Michigan and Florida and will serve a combined 25 years for the robberies.
