Serial Stabbings Suspect Undergoes Tests
A man charged in one Flint-area knife attack and suspected in 13 others is getting a psychological and physical assessment.
Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell tells The Flint Journal Elias Abuelazam was to undergo the tests Friday. The 33-year-old Abuelazam spent Thursday night in jail following his extradition from Atlanta. (More on this)
Abuelazam also is a suspect in two stabbings and a hammer attack in Virginia, and another knife attack in Ohio.
He was arraigned on a charge of assault with intent to commit murder in a July attack. Prosecutor David Leyton has said murder and other charges are expected. Five of the Flint-area attacks were fatal.
Abuelazam was arrested Aug. 11 at an Atlanta airport while awaiting a flight to Tel Aviv in his native Israel.
