Seminar Teaches Tricks Of The Marijuana Trade
DETROIT (WWJ) - Looking for a career change? Marijuana might be just what you're searching for.
The Cannabis Career Institute is coming to Detroit this Saturday for a day-long seminar on how you can become part of what supporters say is fast growing industry.
John Veit, Vice President of the Cannabis Career Institute, said job seekers in nearly every field should keep an open mind about the pot business -- especially because job openings in the industry have grown over 3,000 percent since 2005.
"You don't need to touch or grow or be involved with any actual cannabis to be in the business because most of the jobs in the industry are out of cannabis production," Veit told WWJ's Marie Osborne. "There are jobs for accountants, lawyers, doctors, graphic designers. Basically, any normal business can have cannabis cards."
Veit said the seminar, held at the River Walk Hotel in Detroit, will help people understand the ins and outs of the industry.
"We go through a course book with all of the laws regarding recreational and medical cannabis," he said.
Veit said even though marijuana use is illegal under federal law, the day is soon approaching when all of that will change.
"Marijuana, right now, is the number one cash crop. It's beating cotton, soy, all of it," he said. "The writing is on it wall, it is going to be legal. So, when it is legal, do you want to be one of these people who just jumps in? I've found a lot of people who were actually in the marijuana business before 1996, before medical marijuana, and they are the veterans. They're more in demand because they have a longer time in the business."
