Selfridge Workers Diagnosed With Legionnaires'
Two workers at Selfridge Air National Guard Base have been diagnosed with Legionnaires' disease, an official said Tuesday.
Two buildings have been isolated at the base, which was the common denominator it all of the cases. This past week end, both buildings were cleaned and sanitized, and the cooling system was treated with a disinfectant. According to officials, tests are being conducted and the results should be available in 7-10 days.
The base's Chief of Civil Engineering and Mechanical Operations said they are doing all they can to ensure safety at the facilities.
Legionnaires' disease is a type of pneumonia caused by bacteria, that can sometimes be deadly.
Two conditions of the two afflicted workers have not yet been released.
