Selfridge Air Show Takes To The Sky
MACOMB (WWJ) - While the cars are the stars on Woodward Avenue this weekend, in Macomb County the spotlight is on the sky. It's the 2011 Selfridge Air Show Saturday and Sunday in Harrison Township.
Organizers of the Selfridge Air Show say they think they've found a way to reduce traffic tie ups in and around the base this weekend, and Lt. Colonel Sean Campbell has some traffic advice.
"Well, first I'd avoid Woodward because that's going to be much worse that we're going to be. But, we've come up with a new plan that we're trying this year. We've got some space up toward the front of the base that has opened up, and we're going to, it will allow people to park much quicker than they have in years past."
Two Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets are headlining the show along with an A-10 Thunderbolt II, also known as the Warthog, the KC-135 Stratotanker, Army
CH-47 Chinook and the Coast Guard HH65 Dolphin.
"People come up to us and ask 'Hey, what does the A-10 do? How does this KC-135 that I see flying around all the time, what is its purpose, what is its role?' And they get the opportunity to walk through that airplane, interact with the airmen here at Selfridge and find out what we do on a daily basis," Campbell said.
The Selfridge Air Show runs from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm to five Saturday and Sunday, although public admission to the base will close at 2:00 pm. Flying demonstrations start at 11:00 am. Parking and admission are free. (Read More Here)
