Select Michigan Arby's Restaurants Sell Out Of Venison Sandwich In Minutes
BIRCH RUN (WWJ) -- Long lines broke out in four cities across Michigan on Saturday morning with people trying to get their hands on Arby's new limited edition Venison Sandwich.
Four restaurants in Michigan were chosen by the fast food company to test the sandwich in "popular hunting markets" within "heavy deer hunting areas." Stores in Birch Run, Plainwell, Cedar Springs and Clio all featured the sandwich starting on Saturday, but quickly ran through their stock.
All four stores had run out of the 120 provided sandwiches by 11 a.m., one store even running out in 30 minutes, according to MLive.
Michigan was chosen as one of six states -- Wisconsin, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Georgia -- to test the popularity of the sandwich.
According to Arby's, the Venison Sandwich features a thick-cut venison steak and crispy onions topped with a juniper berry sauce on a toasted specialty roll. The venison is marinated in garlic, salt and pepper and then cooked for three hours to "juicy, tender perfection."
"Hunters hunt the meats, and we have the meats, so it makes sense for us to connect with them and offer a sandwich that they can't get at any other restaurant chain," Chief Marketing Officer and Brand President of Arby's Restaurant Group Rob Lynch said in a press release.
"We're a brand that's not afraid to take risks and while the Venison sandwich is probably the biggest stretch for us yet, it's incredibly delicious and we can't wait to get it in the hands of our guests. You won't leave a hunt empty-handed after stopping by Arby's," Lynch said.
