Security Will Be Heightened At UM's First Night Game
ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - Security is just one of the issues of primary concern for Saturday night's sold-out football game between the University of Michigan and Notre Dame.
It's the first time there has been a night game at Michigan Stadium. Director of Public Safety Doug O'Dell says U of M is taking this game very seriously and is working closely with local and federal law enforcement on preparation:
"It's not a secret that we are doing increased security at the gates, and therefore it may take a little longer to get through, we really want to encourage people to come to the gates early," said O'Dell.
He says none of the parking areas will open until noon for the 8 p.m. game on Saturday.
O'Dell says he was extremely pleased with the fan's behavior Saturday, particularly that of U of M students, when the stadium had to be evacuated because of a storm.
U of M's Athletic Director Dave Brandon is also stressing the message of good behavior before and during the games.
U of M is reaching out to students and fans with messages about what's expected of them to make this game a success.
He says he's worried about people who prepare for the game all day--those who start their partying too early and over indulge and then come to the games.
