Security Breach At Eastern Michigan University
YPSILANTI (WWJ) - An investigation is underway at Eastern Michigan University, where the personal information of some students was compromised.
Police learned of the breach while investigating an unrelated issue.
WWJ's Rob Sanford said it may be the work of some student employees.
The employees in question are actually former students. Officials with the EMU Public Safety Department said they improperly accessed the names, birth dates and social security numbers of about 45 current students.
It is unsure when the breach took place or where the stolen information could have been sent.
Walter Kraft, University Vice President of Communications, told the Detroit News that steps were taken immediately when the breach was discovered and that both workers are no longer employed by the Ypsilanti based school.
The students affected by the breach have been notified.
