Sears May Be Shopping For New Home For Headquarters
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Sears may move its corporate headquarters out of Illinois and there are two cities in Michigan looking to be the city that lands that opportunity.
Southfield and Dearborn are making the effort to be the new home to Sears.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Beth Fisher reports from Southfield on their efforts to lure the department store headquarters.
They're rolling up their sleeves to draw the Sears headquarters to the Blue Cross Blue Shield site on Eleven Mile Road, according to Southfield Mayor Brenda Lawrence.
"It's a team effort, it's the state, the county, and the city working to really convince Sears to make Michigan and I'm hoping to make Southfield their home," said Mayor Lawrence.
Lawrence knows other states are offering tax incentives to Sears, but she feels they're offering a competitive package.
"I'm excited about it, we are working hard to land this company for the city," adds Lawrence.
Lawrence doesn't know when Sears will make a decision, but she knows Illinois won't give up easily either. Sears is considering a move since Illinois raised its corporate taxes.
