Search For New Pistons Coach Begins
DETROIT (WWJ) - The Detroit Pistons have fired head coach John Kuester and they are now looking for a coach to replace him.
Following a two-year stint where Kuester compiled a 57 and 107 record news of his firing hardly came as a surprise.
WWJ spoke with Terry Foster from 97.1 The Ticket: "... but let me throw three names out there...Bill Laimbeer, Isaiah Thomas, two guys who used to play for the Pistons, and also Mike Woodson."
"I knew this was going to happen, I think everybody knew this would happen as soon as ownership change occurred, so now its a question of who will be the next coach," says Foster.
Drew Sharp with the Detroit Free Press had the same names but for different reasons:
"I doubt your going to see names that will make some people here happy (like) Bill Laimbeer, I think a lot of people locally would like to get back to one of the 'Bad Boys' again. But I think the organization needs to get away from that and try to bring in a coach who has proven to have success," said Sharp.
"Mike Woodson who is the former head coach with the Atlanta Hawks, he was an assistant with the Pistons with John Kuester under Larry Brown - when they won the championship in 2004, I understand that he is going to get a lot of consideration," added Sharp.
Kuester's firing comes four days after investor Tom Gores completed an agreement to purchase the Pistons from Karen Davidson.
