Schwartz: "We Don't Have A Depth Chart"

This morning Lions Head Coach Jim Schwartz joined Karsch and Anderson to talk about the 2012 NFL season for the Detroit Lions. After breaking camp and getting the final roster down from 90 guys to 53 Schwartz was asked if he sleeps the night leading up to the final cuts, "Na, it's the toughest part of this job, you're talking about guys who have given a lot to this franchise maybe over years, maybe over a couple of months." He continued to say, "I respect what these guys go through, I mean you have to fire 22 people in a day, it's a tough thing to do.

Karsch asked Schwartz if he knows who will start at cornerback this Sunday with the recent additions of Kevin Barnes and Drayton Florence to the roster. "We really don't have a depth chart. It's not putting a lineup out where in baseball where you tape it to the dugout wall or anything like that. We have a lot of different packages we run and we have an order we play guys but don't publish it."

Karsch followed up by asking if he was please by Bill Bentley this preseason, "when he has been on the field he's shown cover skills, shown toughness, he's shown zone and man and has done a good job in the run game.

Another big question facing the Lions this season is whether there will be a balance in the pass and run game this season and if he would like to see Matthew Stafford throw for 5,000 yard again. Schwartz said, "Whatever it takes to win. Every week will be a little bit different. We don't aspire to be balanced; we aspire to put the ball in the end zone.
