ALLEN PARK (CBS DETROIT) - The day after NFL-mandated injury reports were released, head coach Jim Schwartz addressed why rookie defensive end and first-round pick Ziggy Ansah returned to practice Aug. 24 after suffering a concussion.
"We have protocols that we follow, and we're going to make the best decisions that we can, and those are difficult decisions to make," Schwartz said. "It is what it is.
"It was a non-padded practice, and there was no more contact after he returned, so it wasn't like he was put back into a full padded practice or more contact or stuff like that," Schwartz added. "Those are difficult situations. I've said a lot of times that concussions are a lot different than ankles and hamstrings and shoulders and everything else."
As usual, Schwartz said he would not comment on the status of any injuries, and he said Wednesday that - in the interest of giving opponents as little information as possible - he would also remain mum on what players would start.
"All our guys that have been injured are all progressing well," Schwartz said, "but we'll just see Sunday where they all get to. [Ansah's] no different than anybody else."
