Motorcyclist In Critical Condition, School Bus Driver Arrested After Crash
DETROIT (WWJ) - A motorcyclist is in critical condition after being involved in an accident with a school bus, the driver of which is now in police custody.
The accident happened just before 8 a.m. on Schoolcraft and Minock Street, between Evergreen Road and the Southfield Freeway on Detroit's west side.
Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody said their preliminary investigation shows the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on Schoolcraft and the bus was traveling northbound on Minock, making a left turn onto Schoolcraft, when both vehicles went through the intersection at the same time.
The motorcyclist, described as a man in his mid-20s, was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Police say he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The bus driver, a man in his 60s, was taken into custody at the scene for causing an accident resulting in serious injury.
Detroit Public Schools officials said no DPS students were on the bus, which belongs to ABC Student Transportation.
No other injuries were reported.
The accident remains under investigation. Michigan State Police are assisting Detroit Police.
