School Bathroom Wall Threat Prompts Evacuation
COMMERCE TWP. (WWJ) - Commerce Township middle school was evacuated Thursday afternoon after a threat was found scrawled on a bathroom wall.
In a letter to parents, Clifford Smart Middle School Principal Brian Kaplan said they don't believe the threat was credible -- but precautions had to be taken.
Students were bused to nearby Edgewood Country Club where parents were asked to pick them up.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Department was called in to search building.
Kaplan stressed that all students were safe.
"We are doing everything possible to ensure the safety of our students. The Oakland County Sheriff's department is working with us to execute our safety plan. We are hopeful we will identify the person or persons involved in writing this," he said.
Kaplan asked parents to talk to their kids about "the dangers of such threats and significant disruption and expenditure of valuable resources."
All after school activities were cancelled.
Kaplan said students will not be able to pick up their belongings until Monday.
School officials are not saying what exactly was written on the wall.
Oakland County sheriff's deputies gave the all-clear at the school around 7:30 p.m. Friday night.
