Established in 2011 as the brainchild of Detroit Free Press journalist and local writer Mitch Albom, the Detroit Dream Scholarship Fund aims to award 12 scholarships per year to 12 deserving individuals totaling an amount of $60,000 to attend the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. The scholarship would be broken up into awards of $15,000 every four years to help cover the cost of full tuition for undergraduate programs with the college. A large amount of the funds were personally donated by Mr. Albom himself, including the inaugural $60,000 gift. Detroit Economic Club Scholarship Program

The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan established the Detroit Economic Club Scholarship Program to award students from the City of Detroit and the four surrounding counties a chance to receive a check for $2,000 a year, and it is renewable each consecutive year for up to four years. Two individuals are selected each year to receive the award based upon a number of factors: strong scholastic performance and academic honors received, outstanding leadership and high moral character and a demonstrated family economic need. Up to eight individuals can be selected in a calendar year to receive the honor if the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan sees it fit to award as many. University of Michigan Club of Greater Detroit Scholarships

Many young students in the Metro Detroit area hope to one day be accepted to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor--one of the country's top educational systems. But, like many prestigious universities, tuition to attend the University of Michigan is far from anything considered cheap. The University of Michigan Club of Greater Detroit has established a large number of scholarships intended to help and benefit those who wish to attend the University of Michigan--Ann Arbor campus, including the Lloyd & Laurie Carr Scholarship. Named after the program's long-time head football coach, this scholarship extends an award of $3,000 annually to one freshman applicant per year and does consider the financial need of the applicant, as determined by the University of Michigan Office of Financial Aid.
