Scattered Outages As Storm Cleanup Continues In Dearborn

DEARBORN (WWJ) - While most Dearborn residents have seen their electrical power restored, scattered outages still remain following recent storms.

Dearborn Mayor Jack O'Reilly says that although some residents complain, the city continues its practice of trimming trees on city property as a way to keep them from falling during severe weather.

"We'll trim 'em out mostly for clearance ... so trucks can get by, but also to thin 'em out which makes them less ... it makes them able to absorb wind better than when a tree is really full, it's creating a great barrier for the wind. So, in Dearborn, we trim all of the trees along the streets on a regular basis," O'Rilley said.

O'Reilly said storm clean-up is going to take several weeks to complete.

"We had three fires, but nobody was injured. And we had tree damage where tree branches fell on property or houses or garages or cars -- but without injuries," he said.

Mayor O'Reilly got a taste of the storm when an old tree on his property was toppled. Fortunately, it fell clear of any structures.

Late Wednesday afternoon, a spokesman for DTE Energy said about 3,000 customers remained without power in Metro Detroit.
