Salvation Army Social Media Campaign Supports 'Doing The Most Good' Week
SOUTHFIELD -- The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit is encouraging metro Detroiters to perform "Random Acts of Goodness" through social media for the nonprofit's eighth annual Doing the Most Good Week, May 9-19.
The campaign invites social media savvy do-gooders to share photos of themselves performing volunteer work or brightening a neighbor's day through gestures great and small.
Using the hashtag #ArmyOfGood, participants can upload and share photos with The Salvation Army on Facebook, Twitter (@salmich) and Instagram (@salmich1), demonstrating how they are Doing the Most Good.
The Salvation Army is looking to showcase at least 126 different acts of kindness, coinciding with the number of years The Salvation Army has been Doing the Most Good in Detroit.
Continuing its partnership with The Salvation Army, Quicken Loans is also leveraging its social media influence to encourage participation in the "Random Acts of Goodness" campaign among its nearly 10,000 team members, as well as its social media followers. In addition, hundreds of the online home lenders' team members are Doing the Most Good by volunteering at a dozen community events throughout the week.
"The Salvation Army hopes to harness the power of social media to inspire others to make a positive impact on their community by sharing their random acts of 'goodness' photos," said Major Mark Anderson, general secretary and area commander for The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit. "This is a fun way to pay it forward and recognize those who are Doing the Most Good."
Though the possibilities are endless, examples of "Random Acts of Goodness" photos for participants to share can include:
* Joining in any of The Salvation Army's planned Doing the Most Good Week events or activities throughout metro Detroit
* Donating used clothing to The Salvation Army Thrift Stores
* Holding a door open for a stranger
* Writing letters to soldiers thanking them for their service
* Reading to children at a library
* Dropping off stuffed animals to a children's hospital
* Handing out bottles of water to joggers/bikers/walkers at a park
* Donating blood
* Giving someone a hug
* Planting a tree
Doing The Most Good Week is unique to Metro Detroit, and coincides yearly with the annual National Salvation Army Week, as designated by former U.S. President Dwight Eisenhower in 1954.
