Salvation Army Begins Its Red Kettle Campaign
ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - When you hear the bell you know that's a traditional sign of the holiday season.
The Salvation Army red kettle bell ringers are now out at area businesses collecting monetary donations to help the less fortunate.
WWJ's Pat Sweeting spoke with Lisa Patterson in Royal Oak who cheerfully thanked folks who donated money as they entered and exited Holiday Market on Friday.
"(The donors) have been pretty generous this year, and we definitely need it with the situation we are having now," said Patterson. "So, yes, they've been ... good."
This past year, The Salvation Army of metro Detroit was involved in providing 3,220,937 meals and 677,051 nights of shelter for the homeless. The Salvation Army uses $.85 of every dollar raised to provide direct services to people in need each and every day of the year.
