Rubio: Michigan's Pro-Business Climate A Role Model For Country
DETROIT (WWJ) - Calling Detroit, with its industrial rise and fall in the twentieth century, the perfect place to discuss the new American economy - Marco Rubio said the current rebirth going on in Detroit is a model for the country to follow.
Republican presidential hopeful, Senator Rubio of Florida, came to the Detroit Economic Club to talk business and international politics.
"Today Detroit is an example of what can happen under pro-growth, pro-business leadership. Under Governor Snyder corporate taxes have dropped significantly, the city's financial climate has finally been reset through bankruptcy. And thanks to numbers pro-growth reforms, Michigan now has one of the best entrepreneurial environments in the country," said Rubio.
As president, Rubio said he would begin by overhauling the tax code; including cutting the corporate tax rate and increasing the pre-child tax credit.
In regards to Iran and Cuba, Rubio says both deals are bad for the U.S.
"Given the choice between a nuclear Iran and military force? I'll take military force every time," he said.
Rubio says that within 10 years of a deal with Iran we can expect to the country to move forward with their nuclear ambitions.
"We're going to lift sanctions, we're going to allow you to have billions of dollars of sanction relief and they are not going to use it to build bridges and hospitals - they are going to use it to fund terrorist proxies. They are going to use it to build their conventional capabilities - they are going to use it to continue to build their long-range missile capabilities and ultimately they are going to use it to build a nuclear weapon," said Rubio.
Democratic Party officials were quick to respond to remarks Rubio made during his stop in Detroit.
Calling his rhetoric 'old and tired' Michigan Democratic Party Chair Brandon Dillon described Rubio's vision for middle class American as toxic.
"Rubio and other Republican candidates have a plan that favors the rich over the middle class if these Republicans like Marco Rubio had their way we wouldn't even be talking about an auto industry because GM and Chrysler would be closed and the American industry would be non-existent.
"Michiganders know that without the auto rescue the state would be in a depression," said Dillon. "Michigan is the home of the auto, Michigan is where the economic engine of the country is and under Marco Rubio's plan we would have been left for dead."
Dillon says Rubio's tax plan would only raise rates for those in the middle class.
