Royal Oak Man Charged With Sixth Drunken Driving Offense
FERNDALE (WWJ) - Police say a Royal Oak man who has five previous convictions related to drunk driving is facing his sixth similar charge after being arrested in Ferndale.
Lance Petway was arraigned Thursday in Ferndale's 43rd District Court on charges of operating while intoxicated -- third offense, and driving while license suspended -- second offense. Magistrate James Brennan set bond at $5,000 and ordered Petway to wear an electronic alcohol tether. He's due back in court on Feb. 7.
Police say Petway was arrested around 6 p.m. Wednesday after running a red light on northbound Woodward Avenue at Marshall Street. Police say a Breathalyzer test showed Petway had a blood-alcohol level of 0.11 percent. The legal limit in Michigan is .08 percent.
Investigators say Petway was driving on a suspended license at the time of his arrest, a penalty from his prior OWI convictions.
Court records show that Petway's past include several convictions related to drunk driving. He was convicted of similar charges in 2009, 2007, 2001, 1998 and 1992.
