Roseville Firefighters Deliver Baby

Safely delivering a baby is usually something you leave for the doctors -- but a team of Roseville firefighters spent Sunday morning performing a true labor of love.

WWJ's Kathryn Larson spoke with Firefighter Paramedic Michael Roarty.

"Firefighters routinely get a number of calls for the cut finger and for the cardiac situation, or the stroke or so on. But, when a woman calls and says she's having a baby -- you have a tendency to step it up just a little bit more," he said.

Roarty said the baby was more than crowning when they arrived on the scene -- and the firefighters had to think fast to calm mom and dad down.  Roarty said the mom had a fully natural childbirth, and once they put the baby girl on mom's chest,s he and baby Isabella were just fine.

"We're sworn to protect and serve our citizens, and I think we served our citizens well yesterday," he said.
