DETROIT - After talking at length about the decision to place veteran designated hitter Victor Martinez on the disabled list, Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus provided updates on reliever Bruce Rondon and starting pitcher Justin Verlander.

"Rondon's going to go on a rehab Thursday, and if that goes well, he'll take another one on Sunday," Ausmus said Tuesday. "After that, we'll see."

Ausmus said Verlander is also moving closer to a return.

"Probably do a bullpen with an up and down as opposed to facing hitters," Ausmus said. "I think it's Friday."

Both Rondon and Verlander started the season on the disabled list - Rondon for bicipital tendinitis and Verlander for a triceps strain.

Verlander threw a 45-pitch bullpen Monday, while Rondon faced hitters and threw 25 pitches.
