Romney Son Brings Message To Metro Detroit At Reagan Event
SHELBY TWP. (CBS Detroit) Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney weathered a bad week when a video leaked of him referring to "47 percent" of Americans as feeling entitled to government handouts in lieu of working and paying taxes.
Romney and his campaign have been trying to right the ship following the gaffe, and polls that show him declining steadily behind Democratic incumbent President Barack Obama -- and now the campaign is bringing its message to metro Detroit
Romney's oldest son Tagg Romney will deliver a keynote speech at 7 p.m. Monday in Shelby Township at the 10th Congressional Districts' Reagan Day Dinner.
Organizers of the event support Romney, saying in a statement: "With unemployment at 9.4%, devastatingly high gas prices, and 1 in every 593 Michigan homes in foreclosure, it's more clear than ever – Michigan cannot afford another four years of the last four years. America needs a leader who can stand up to the challenges that face this country and not give up.
"President Obama has thrown in the white flag of surrender and said he can't change Washington from the inside. Mitt Romney can change Washington, and he will change Washington – he will get the job done. No one knows this better than his eldest son, Tagg Romney."
The event happens at The Palazzo Grande, 54660 Van Dyke Avenue, Shelby Township. Congresswoman Candice S. Miller will be the master of ceremonies, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m.
