Romney Pie Shop Stop Met With Protest
DEWITT (WWJ/AP) - Dozens of protesters braved scorching temperatures Tuesday afternoon to protest Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's appearance at a mid-Michigan pie shop.
Romney is making three stops Tuesday in Michigan, where he grew up. Several hundred supporters gathered in front of the Sweetie-licious Bakery in downtown DeWitt to await his arrival.
Across the street, protesters chanted, "We are the 99 percent!" One woman held a sign proclaiming "Romney has always been a bully."
Romney supporter Imogene McNeilly of St. Johns sat in a lawn chair fanning herself in the hot sunshine. The 80-year-old says she likes the GOP candidate's policies and the fact he's from Michigan.
Earlier Tuesday, Romney spoke about job creation and the economy to a friendly crowd in Frankenmuth.
He's wrapping up a multi-state bus tour across the Midwest.
