Rochester's 'Fire & Ice Fest' Still On This Weekend
ROCHESTER (WWJ) - As the winter weather is going through some changes, so are the organizers at the "Fire & Ice Fest" going on this weekend.
WWJ's Chrystal Knight reports the 2012 Fire & Ice Fest in Rochester will go on with a scaled-down version of the annual winter event due to unseasonably mild weather forecast .
J. David VanderVeen, Oakland County Director of Central Services, said some of the festival's events that were cancelled because of mild temperatures are still a no-go, but some of the winter weather fun is back on.
"It's too late to build an ice rink, we won't be able to do the dog sledding, the skating and the tube run, but we're still going to gear up for the cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, the kids can make, as they say, snowmen and snow angels, as weather permits," VanderVeen said.
This year's festival will feature ice sculptures with a Hollywood theme on Main Street, a fireworks show, plenty of downtown Rochester shopping and great eats at downtown Rochester restaurants.
The fireworks show is scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24. To view the fireworks, festival goers should gather in the Farmer's Market lot at Third and Water streets.
The free festival takes place in Downtown Rochester on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
