Rochester Hills Man Wins NASCAR Race At Pocono
LONG POND, PA (WWJ/AP) - Brad Keselowski of Rochester Hills has won the Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway, completing 500 grueling miles with a broken left ankle.
Keselowski competed with a brace on his ankle on Sunday and sped off on the final restart late in the race. He climbed out of his car to celebrate with his crew in Victory Lane.
"I hit (the wall) about as hard as I think you can hit in one of these cars," Keselowski told USA Today. "I felt lucky that was all that was tore up ... I'm still here. Grace of God, I guess."
He was an unlikely winner after he crashed head-on into a wall on Wednesday during a test session at Road Atlanta. Keselowski slammed a section of wall at 100 mph and was forced out of the Nationwide Series race.
He insisted during practice this weekend he wouldn't leave the No. 2 Dodge, no matter how much pain he was in, but it wasn't necessary.
Keselowski had some rest during a 1 hour, 40-minute rain delay.
