Robinson III Earns Second Big Ten Freshman Of The Week Honor

PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan men's basketball freshman forward Glenn Robinson III (St. John, Ind./Lake Central HS) was named the Big Ten's Freshman of the Week today (Monday, Jan. 28) by the conference office. It marks the second conference rookie accolade for Robinson this season.

Helping U-M go 2-0 during the week, Robinson helped U-M continue with its best start in school history (19-1) with wins over Purdue and at Illinois. He averaged 12.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists (no turnovers), while shooting 71.4 percent from the field (10-for-14), 50.0 percent (2-for-4) from long range and draining both of his free throws.

Opening the week, he finished with 12 points and nine rebounds, while going 4-for-6 from the field and 2-for-3 from long range as U-M defeated Purdue, 68-53, to remain undefeated at home (12-0). Heading back to the road at Illinois, Robinson added another 12 points going 6-for-8 from the field, while grabbing seven rebounds and adding two assists. For the week, he missed a total of five minutes as he averaged 37.5 for the week.

Overall, U-M has 10 conference accolades this season. Tim Hardaway Jr. (Miami, Fla./Palmetto Senior) has collected two Player of the Week honors, Trey Burke (Columbus, Ohio/Northland HS) has two to his credit, while Nik Stauskas (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada/St. Mark's School [Mass.]) has three Freshman of the Week awards and Robinson has two and Mitch McGary (Chesterton, Ind./Brewster Academy) has one.

The Wolverines will return to Ann Arbor on Wednesday (Jan. 30) looking to sweep Northwestern inside Crisler Center. Tipoff is slated for 6:30 p.m., and the game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
