Roadwork Slows Biz On Telegraph Rd.
Construction on a long stretch of Telegraph Road in Oakland County is taking its toll on local businesses.
Doug Chartrand, manager of Hogan's Restaurant on Telegraph and Maple, tells WWJ Newsradio 950 business is down as much as fifty-percent during lunch hours due to the road work that's supposed to wrap up by the end of the year.
"It has not been good...We have bills to pay. But, as long as we have our guests coming in to support us, especially during dinner time, we could hold out," he said.
Chartrand says, like other businesses on Telegraph, Hogan's is doing more advertising as well as offering discount coupons in hopes of luring customers back.
Moreen Cullen is the manager of Maryweather Seafood and Steaks on Telegraph near 11 mile Road. She says additional headache could come when construction could close a turnaround that leads into the restaurant's parking lot.
"That's usually only a day. But, still, a lot of people from from the north down Telegraph Road and want to loop around, and that's going to stop that. They will be able to go to the next cross, at the street light, but people don't like to deal with any of that," Cullen said.
The construction could drag on into December.
